Negril is known for soft sands and calm waters that are perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling. Vacationers in Ocho Rios can visit one of Jamaica's most treasured attractions, 600-foot Dunn's River Falls, while those in Montego Bay can take a gentle float trip down the Martha Brae River. Runaway Bay is near the Green Grotto Caves, where guided subterranean tours take visitors to a lake 120 feet below the surface.

Experienced divers can explore several interesting shipwrecks, including two Spanish vessels that sank off the north coast in 1563. Nature lovers can head to the country's national parks, where crocodiles at Isla Cabritos and flamingos at Jaragua are among the favorites. In the evening, nightclubs pulse with the beat of merengue music.

In the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas draws yachters, sportfishing fans and golfers. Charlotte Amalie, the capital, offers world-class duty-free shopping, fine dining and lively nightlife. You can get a bird's-eye view of Charlotte Amalie from the Paradise Point Tramway, which climbs a 700-foot peak.

Magens Bay is frequently lauded as one of the world's most beautiful beaches, while Drake's Seat provides some of the island's most dramatic views. Humpback whales can be spotted along the north coast of St. Thomas from January through April.
